GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Students completing the credit requirements to graduate will receive a Cedar Rapids Community School District diploma.  The credit system is computed on a 12-week trimester, four-year program.  Trimester courses carry a potential of 5 credits for 55-minute classes or 10 credits for 110 minute block classes.

Language Arts, 60.0 credits, 4 years
Social Studies, 45.0 credits, 3 years
Math, 45.0 credits, 3 years
Science, 45.0 credits, 3 years
Physical Education, 30.0 credits, 4 years
Electives, 75.0 credits, 4 years

Language Arts: All the basics plus Graphic Novels, Honors, Theater Arts and curriculum collaborations such as Mythology and Art.
Social Studies: The basics, World History, US History, Economics and curriculum collaborations such as US History Centennial.
Math: All the basics plus Aleks, and curriculum collaborations such as Foods Math.  Visit the Math website for class information
Science: The basics, Principles of Technology, Robotics, and curriculum collaborations such as Forensics. Visit the Science website for class information 
Physical Education: The basics of high school Wellness and Fitness plus Ping-Pong, badminton and a weight room.
Electives: Electives include Industrial Arts, Digital Arts, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts.

College and Career: Metro graduates are ready for their future. In addition to fulfilling high school credit requirements, Metro students utilize the IHaveaPlanIowa.gov program, Job Shadow opportunities, ACT E-Compass testing, Work Experience classes, PSEO classes, Honors classes and more.

The Learning Center: During the school year, Metro students who are currently enrolled may be scheduled into our Learning Center to complete the GED pre-tests with the recommendation of their advisor. Non-Metro students should contact the Kirkwood Resource Center for GED program details, call 319 784-1510, or visit 1030 Fifth Avenue, SE, the Kirkwood Resource Center is located on the lower level.
